Jeff Norwood Blues Remembrance — South Carolina bluesman Jeff Norwood passed away just over a year ago, just as his career was settling in to a greasy acoustic blues groove in both performances and recordings. In true blues musician fashion, some of Norwood’s friends will be gathering and playing the blues to remember him. Luckyman Beall plays 50’s-influenced electric and acoustic blues, The Pentodes bring Americana-laced blues and a full band sound. Jeff Liberty is a master at the electric blues, and headliner Marv Ward is a veteran blues player who coaxes some seriously cool tones from both his guitar and his voice. — K. Oliver

The State/Otis Taylor’s Picks of the Week

2 p.m. Sunday: The Jam Room Summer Sessions at Jake’s Bar & Grill. If it seems like Jam Room is taking over Jake’s, it’s because that’s exactly what’s happening. Kind of. Last weekend, the Rosewood Drive recording studio hosted Back to Rockafellas’, a three-day fundraiser for The Jam Room Music Festival in September. This show is a tribute to Jeff Norwood, the guitarist who died in April 2012. Norwood was known for his blues licks, but he wasn’t always into the blues. Jay Matheson, owner of Jam Room, said Norwood, who he grew up with in McBee, got him into Black Sabbath. Luckyman Beale, The Pentodes, Jeff Liberty and Rev. Marv Ward will perform. The music starts at 4 p.m. Jake’s is at 2112 Devine St. $5, and pets are welcome; (803) 708-4788

Woodshed Artists in Residence

Just a note to tell you all that we are pretty proud of the fact that 3 out of 4 of our members have been chosen to be "Artists in Residence" at The Woodshed here in sunny Columbia, SC.  This is a project that Patrick Chapman has started to record/archive the local music scene in and around our stomping grounds of Columbia.  We have had the privilege of being able to extend and lend our talents in all sorts of ways since the inception of this project.  Check out Mike, Jason and Jackson on Woodshed as well as other artists in our area.  We're proud of our band/band members and our community!  Here are some links for people to check out:
